Fit check

To choose the right model, write down window measurements B, C and D. You will need them when placing your order.

You will need a tape measure, something to write with, and a simple tool for measuring D.

10-minute guide

Flowerail measurements A B C D E

A Make sure Flowerail can be installed on your window.

Flowerail is suitable only for inward-opening windows where the whole window or at least one window section opens inward.

If no part of the window opens inward, Flowerail cannot be installed on that window.

  • If only one narrow section of a multi-section window opens, choose a one-module Mini version according to measurement B: Mini S, Mini M or Mini L.
  • If a larger section of a multi-section window opens and allows you to reach the construction for fastening and maintenance, a full-length two-module Flowerail is suitable for the window.
  • If both outer sections of a three-section window open, it may be possible to install Flowerail across the full width of the window.

B Measure the width of the load-bearing part of the window sill flashing.

Choose the Flowerail model based on measurement B.

    B from 15 cm: S or Mini S
    B from 19 cm: M or Mini M
    B from 26 cm: L or Mini L

How to measure the load-bearing part of the window sill flashing

    • Measurement B is taken horizontally from the window frame to the edge of the part that supports the window sill flashing. In many cases, the supporting part is the wall, meaning the depth of the window reveal. Image 1.
    • On windows where there is a support ledge projecting from the wall under the window sill flashing, measure the load-bearing width from the window to the edge of the support ledge. Image 2.
    • Do not measure the total width of the flashing when choosing the model. The outer edge of the flashing is usually not supported underneath.

Requirements for the window sill flashing

    • The weight of Flowerail and the planters is transferred to the window sill flashing. The flashing must be supported underneath and must not bend under load.
    • To test the flashing, press down firmly on it in several places. If the flashing does not bend, the location is suitable for installing Flowerail.

Note: a bending window sill flashing can be reinforced. It may also be possible to extend the load-bearing part of the flashing slightly.

C Measure the width between the window reveals in centimetres.

    Write down measurement C.

Width measurement C is needed to prepare the product for your window.

Measuring width C between the window reveals

    • Two-module Flowerail: suitable for a window where the width C between the window reveals is 85–177 cm.
    • If C is under 85 cm or over 177 cm: we currently do not offer a standard solution for this window.
    • Mini version: choose this if only one narrow section of a multi-section window opens and a full-length two-module Flowerail cannot be installed.
    • Mini model: choose according to measurement B: Mini S, Mini M or Mini L.

Custom-size solutions may be possible by special order and agreement.

D Measure the slope of the window sill flashing in millimetres.

Write down measurement D. Measurement D shows how much the window sill flashing drops over a distance of 10 cm from the window frame.

For standard Flowerail installation, measurement D must be up to 25 mm. Flowerail must not be installed on a window sill flashing with a larger slope measurement before the flashing has been corrected.

Watch the window sill flashing slope measurement video.

How to measure the slope of the window sill flashing with simple household tools

    • Hold a right-angled measuring aid with one side against the window frame. A box lid or a book can be used as the measuring aid.
    • Make sure the lower corner of the measuring aid rests against the flashing next to the window frame.
    • Make a visible mark 10 cm from the window frame, right next to the edge of the measuring aid.
    • Measure the vertical distance D between the mark and the flashing. Write down distance D in millimetres.
    • If D is 25 mm or less, the slope angle is 15° or less and the window is suitable for standard Flowerail installation.

Note: in many cases, the slope angle of the window sill flashing can be corrected through building or installation work.

E Check that there is at least 15 mm of installation space for the mounting rail.

Flowerail is attached to the window installation profile using mounting rails.

There must be at least 15 mm of space between the window frame and the surface of the flashing for the mounting rail.

    Measuring mounting space E

How to check the installation space for the mounting rail

    • Check the area under the window frame where the flashing is fastened with screws.
    • Measure the space between the window frame and the surface of the flashing.
    • To install Flowerail, there must be at least 15 mm of space for the mounting rail in this location.

Note: if there is less than 15 mm of space, standard installation may not be possible. In some cases, the installation area can be corrected, but this may require repair or installation experience.

    Check before ordering

For standard Flowerail installation, the following conditions must be met.

    • A: the window opens inward.
    • B: the load-bearing width of the window sill flashing meets the selected model’s minimum requirement.
    • C: the width between the window reveals is within Flowerail’s supported size range.
    • D: the window sill flashing slope measurement is up to 25 mm.
    • E: there is at least 15 mm of installation space for the mounting rail.

If these conditions are met, choose the model according to measurement B and enter measurements C and D in the order form.

    * Check building rules and restrictions.

Flowerail is installed without fasteners passing through the facade.

    • The construction is attached to the rails with clamps.
    • Flowerail is removable and is not a permanent part of the building.

Before buying Flowerail, check whether your building rules, local heritage restrictions or apartment association requirements restrict the installation of objects outside the window.

Good to know: if the window sill flashing needs correction

    • If the window sill flashing is hollow underneath, bends under load or makes noise in rain, the flashing may need maintenance regardless of Flowerail.
    • Repairing the flashing can be a practical 2-in-1 solution: the flashing is improved and a suitable base for installing Flowerail is created.
    • Correcting the flashing, changing its slope or supporting it from underneath may require repair or installation experience.

    Installation help

If you do not want to install Flowerail yourself or if your window sill flashing needs correction before installation, you can use the services of a construction company.
The manufacturer and seller of Flowerail do not install the construction.
